Every passenger on the railway has the right to take luggage with them. Everything is more or less clear when it comes to bags and suitcases, and when bulky things – there are questions. In our article we will analyze how to take sports and tourist equipment with you on the train, find out in which cases you need to pay for it and how to transport it correctly.
This is not the first time we have written and we will repeat once again that hand luggage should not exceed 180 centimeters in the sum of three dimensions. These are standard sizes applicable on most routes in Russia (there are exceptions, most often on high-speed trains and for certain baggage). Let's look at specific examples.
With the onset of heat, bicycles become a popular luggage for outdoor enthusiasts. Models can be transported in hand luggage without a motor and only disassembled. To pack the bike properly, it is necessary to lower the saddle, remove the front wheel (for folding models: fold in half), lay it on the packaging film, turn the steering wheel and put the front wheel on the frame so that the bike is flat and occupies as little space as possible. After that, wrap it completely in film, put it in a case or pack it in another way. In this form, it can be placed on the third shelf in the reserved seat or in the luggage niche of the compartment and ST. It can also be placed in places of hand luggage and with passengers in the car. Transportation will be paid at the rate of luggage weighing 10 kilograms. Your luggage should not dirty other passengers, take up a lot of space and interfere with other passengers. In addition, there is a luggage compartment on long-distance trains, where you can even indiscriminately put a bicycle in your luggage. It is important that the parameters of double-deck cars remain classic, as for hand luggage, and in single-deck trains it is impossible to exceed the size of luggage according to the following parameters: the height is no more than 175 centimeters, the width is a maximum of 50 centimeters and the depth is up to 45 centimeters. If you plan to take something else into the luggage compartment, know that there are no more than three pieces of luggage per passenger with a maximum weight of 200 kilograms. With this type of transportation, payment for baggage is charged depending on the mileage.
Kayaks, kayaks, paddles and similar equipment are recommended to be transported in a luggage compartment on long-distance trains. In suburban areas, it is allowed with passengers in the carriage or in hand luggage places. All the same, not forgetting that they should not interfere with anyone and create discomfort. For this inventory, payment is made as for luggage of 30 kilograms.
Skis with poles and snowboards can be transported free of charge (as a rule, their size rarely exceeds the set parameters for hand luggage). They are located in a place intended for hand luggage, or with a passenger in the car. In addition, in winter, special trains are organized for outdoor enthusiasts, where each passenger can spend no more than one inventory without payment. Please note that there is a ski fee in some suburban destinations. Therefore, before buying a train ticket, check the possibility of free transportation.
Hunting and sporting rifles must match the size of hand luggage and be properly packed. They must be in special cases or holsters. And also the guns must be discharged, stirred separately from the cartridges (in no case together). Payment for luggage (one unit), as for a suitcase weighing 10 kilograms.
It is also allowed to carry sports poles on the train. But there are small peculiarities in loading and unloading them from the car. Since such luggage is allowed to be placed in the corridor (along the casing of the heating pipes), unloading is allowed only when all passengers leave the car. And you can download it at the departure station or intermediate stops with a long parking (more than 5 minutes). A guide will help in this matter. Of course, transportation is not free. Each pole is paid at the baggage rate of 10 kilograms. And one passenger can carry a maximum of two inventory of this kind.
Summing up, we note important points: it is possible to transport tourist and sports equipment, in most cases payment is required for it. It is important that for other passengers your oversized luggage does not cause discomfort, does not interfere and does not get dirty. In addition, baggage payment can be made after the purchase of a ticket, but before the departure of the train. Each passenger is responsible for the integrity and safety of their luggage independently, so do not leave things unattended.
