Women will finally be able to become machinists! Will this affect travel in the future?

The modern world is changing dramatically and full equality is gradually coming, including professionally. Women are already actively becoming pilots and driving Boeings, have been driving public transport for a long time and are becoming truckers. In particular, the training of women for a train driver in the subway has recently begun. Now it has come to JSC "Russian Railways".

The dream of many women to become a train driver is now feasible. According to the press center of Russian Railways, from June 1, 2020, the training of such specialists in the direction of "Assistant driver" will begin. Recruitment for the pilot project will open on March 1 and anyone can join it. It will be necessary to pass the selection in the Moscow directorate of high-speed communication. It will consist of several stages, during which it will be revealed whether the candidates are ready to work in railway transport. In total, it is planned to select 10 women who will undergo full-fledged training in the profession at the training centers of professional qualifications of railways of JSC "Russian Railways".

The training itself will also consist of two main stages: theoretical and practical. Future typists will study the rules of technical operation in railway transport and labor protection. And also the device of high-speed trains "Swallow", which in the future will become a place of work for new assistants. Practical skills will be worked out on special simulators that simulate the cabin of a train, and after that they will be admitted to the present train. The learning process will take six months.

The requirements for candidates are quite simple: education is not lower than average and be over 18 years old. And accordingly, go through all the stages of selection and complete the training. Received the rights of an assistant driver of an electric train "Swallow". It is planned that typists will work on the Moscow Central Ring (MCC) from 2021.

A lot of opinions have appeared on this topic, which threaten that the demand for the use of trains, where women will be assistants or drivers, will drop sharply. Of course, the pilot project will show whether the selected candidates are able to prove themselves. The possibility of a new stream of training and popularization of this profession among the female sex is not excluded. If we compare it with aviation, the demand and the number of flights have not changed in any way. For example, there are now about 13 pilots in Aeroflot. People are sometimes surprised by such facts, but there have been no departures from flights yet (at least, we have not found information about this).
