Is it possible to take an animal on a trip? Will I need to issue a separate ticket?

On the territory of the Russian Federation, according to the rules of transportation, passengers, in addition to hand luggage of certain dimensions, are allowed to take animals with them, provided that they occupy only one seat per ticket. 1-2 pets can apply for this place, as well as 2 birds, for the transportation of which it is allowed to charge an additional fee. 

Pets (small rodents, medium-sized dogs and birds) are transported in cages, boxes, carrier bags, baskets, with parameters no more than 180 centimeters in the sum of 3 dimensions; they are placed in places for bags.

Only in some cars are allowed to travel with your favorite pets, so before you travel, you should carefully study the rules of a particular carrier and consult whether the carriage of animals is really allowed in this car.

Perhaps at first you purchased a ticket without planning to take a pet with you, and later the situation changed, then you need to take a document for its transportation at the station ticket office, which you will need to present when boarding. It is permissible to obtain the relevant document during the entire ticket sale period. In case of force majeure, the document can be handed over to special cash desks, but only before the train leaves the line, no refund is made later. 

When a ticket is purchased in a car in which animals are PROHIBITED, you will have to hand it over and pay for a new one, in the car where you and the animals will be accepted with pleasure. 

It is allowed to take representatives of the animal world with you as companions:

• dogs and cats;
• small rodents (guinea pig, decorative rabbit, Syrian and Dzungarian hamsters, squirrel, chinchilla);
• birds (parrots, pigeons, pheasants, buntings, finches).

It is allowed to transport small animals by rail, which include:

• of birds (mallards, grouse hawks and sparrowhawks);
• from small rodents (gray rats, house mice, gerbils);
• non-venomous amphibians (tree frogs, spur frogs);
• shellfish and aquarium fish;
• non-venomous reptiles (skids, red-eared turtles, chameleons, lizards);
• arthropods, excluding those listed in the Red Book.

For large animals, you will need to show documents from a veterinarian when landing. Small pets, dogs and birds can be transported across the expanses of the Russian Federation without a veterinary certificate. For illegal transportation of animals without appropriate documents, accompanying persons may be held liable for property liability in accordance with the legislation of the Russian Federation. 

The owner is obliged to monitor the compliance of his pets with sanitary and hygienic standards in the carriage. You will have to pay for a full compartment to hold a large dog, necessarily in a muzzle and on a leash; moreover, you do not need to pay extra for the dog.  

The same requirements are met when transporting service dogs, while the number of dogs and accompanying persons in a separate compartment cannot exceed the number of seats.

Blind people in any car carry guide dogs for free in the presence of a muzzle and a collar. The dog is constantly located at the feet of the person with whom it follows.

It is not allowed to carry wild animals in hand luggage.

Veterinary documents should be issued no earlier than 5 days before the start of the trip.

In accordance with the type of animals required to issue:

• veterinary certificates No. 1, 2, 3;
• veterinary certificate form No. 4;
• veterinary certificates of forms No. 6.1, 6.2, 6.3.

Transportation of animals in the cars of the DOSS formation (trains "Swallow" and "Peregrine falcon")

In these trains, it is allowed to carry small animals, dogs and birds in standard carriers (cages, boxes) corresponding to 180 centimeters in the sum of measurements from 3 sides on the allocated places for hand luggage. The pet should not weigh more than 10 kilograms, including carrying.

Massive dogs are not allowed on the Peregrine Falcon train, except for guide dogs traveling with their owners for free (a prerequisite is a muzzle and with a leash).

In the VSP "Peregrine falcon", medium-sized animals are placed in first class cars No. 3 (13) on the area allocated for them near seats No. 65-66, and the dimensions of the carrier or cage correspond to 120 centimeters when measured from 3 sides. 

For one place, the owner can take only 1 living creature into the company, but no more than 2 in one train. Two days before the train leaves the line, the owner should make a call to the operator on duty (8-800-222-07-66) to record the reservation of seats and inform the data of his passenger ticket. Your pet travels «independently & raquo; in car No. 3 (13) with timely submission of the application and standard carrying dimensions. It is mandatory for the conductor to pay a fee in the amount of 900 rubles in cash.

Travelers with small animals are offered tickets to special-purpose cars, which involve payment at a certain rate. On trains «Sapsan» — seats # 65-66 in cars # 8 (18) and #3 (13); in «Swallow »— seats # 29-30 in cars # 5 and 10; in trains «Swallow-Premium»— seats # 27-34, 43-44 in cars # 5 and 10.

Pets can be transported free of charge, subject to the above rules, in cars with increased comfort conditions (1P). In the compartment-meeting room, it is allowed to take 1 animal for one place, but no more than 4 at the same time. A fairly roomy carrier (cage) with ventilation holes and strong locks should have a dense waterproof bottom covered with absorbent non-loose material. 

Transportation of animals in wagons of other carriers

In separate compartments, transportation of birds, small animals and dogs is allowed, excluding high-comfort cars and 2-seater compartments (SV). 

One person has the right to carry no more than 2 animals or 2 birds. Impressive service (thoroughbred) four-legged friends are allowed into the carriage with a fully paid compartment in muzzles and with leashes. There is no need to pay for them, but the number of dogs and their owners in one compartment cannot exceed the number of seats. On the way, the animals are kept under the constant supervision of escorts.

In suburban trains, under the direct control of the owner, no more than 2 dogs with advance payment are allowed to be transported in the vestibule.

Transportation of animals in interstate communication (with the CIS and Baltic countries)

Travelers are allowed to take pets (cats, dogs, birds) on a trip in a standard carrier with dimensions of 200 centimeters, if measured from 3 sides. The animals are placed in the places for bags when submitting veterinary documents. In trains belonging to Azerbaijan Railways CJSC, the transportation of livestock is allowed only in a compartment if all unoccupied seats are paid for at an adult rate. 

Dogs (no more than 2) travel in an isolated compartment, and the owner pays for all available seats in the compartment. Sometimes, in agreement with carriers, it is allowed to carry dogs in wagons, assuming increased comfort.For example, JSC "Estonian Railway" gives the go-ahead for the transportation of pets in the compartment(s) of the trains of JSC "FPC" No. 33/34 on the route Moscow — Tallinn. It is not necessary to pay extra for the passage of animals, but if the carrier is not able to allocate a full compartment, then it will not work to take your favorite pets on a trip.

Blind and visually impaired people have the right to carry a guide dog free of charge in cars of any class. The animal is located near the person in whose company it follows. 

Passengers themselves ensure the safety of hand luggage and their pets, adhere to hygienic requirements and monitor the implementation of sanitary standards by their pets, carrying out regular cleaning.

The owners take care of the animals placed in the luggage compartment themselves throughout the trip, unless they have concluded a contract with the carrier for their care services. Payment is taken in fact for the weight of the animal, but at least for 20 kilograms of luggage.

On trains running between Russia and the Republic of Abkhazia, the rules for traveling with pets are similar.

Transportation of animals in suburban transport

In suburban trains, it is allowed to transport cats and medium-sized dogs without carrying them under the constant supervision of the owners.

In the vestibule, it is permissible to transport massive dogs under the control of the owners in the presence of a leash and a muzzle.Only two four-legged friends are allowed to be carried in one vestibule. 

Moving over short distances, you do not need to present documents issued by a veterinarian, but the animals are paid for separately.

Transportation of animals in international traffic

Allowed on the following trains:

• No. 17/18 Moscow — Nice
• No. 13/14 Moscow — Berlin
• No. 21/22 (100) Moscow — Vienna
• No. 23/24 Moscow — Berlin — Paris
• No. 57/22 (100) St. Petersburg — Vienna
• No. 57/22 (100) St. Petersburg — Prague
• No. 21/22 Moscow — Prague (together with cars that do not provide for a transfer)
• No.9/10 Moscow — Warsaw «Polonaise» (excluding non-stop cars)

Passengers are required to comply with the instructions of the administration and the access regime approved by the carrier for the movement of pets.

Those traveling in sleeping cars are allowed to have birds, dogs, and small animals with them. If you paid for a full compartment according to the "Single" tariff, then pets go for free. 

Transportation of animals in wagons providing only seats and, if it is impossible to allocate a full compartment is excluded.

Pets are allowed to land in carriers, bags or cages, the general parameters of which are no more than 200 centimeters (for example, 60 x 40 x 100 cm). They are placed on a platform prepared for hand luggage.

Dogs of impressive size are transported on a short leash, exclusively in a muzzle under the vigilant supervision of the owner. The traveler is allowed to take 1 dog or 1 cage with other animals in the compartment.

As part of train No. 9/10 Moscow — Warsaw in cars that do not provide for a transfer, moving in the Moscow railway direction/Minsk — Budapest/Belgrade/Bar/Sophia/Varna/Burgas small pets and dogs are allowed to travel in a 1st - 2nd class compartment if the owners have paid for all the compartments. To transport a dog, you need to purchase a separate ticket. She should sit quietly on the floor and not show aggression towards other people.

Without additional payment, it is allowed to carry your pets in a carrier. The attendant is responsible for someone's hand luggage damaged by his animals or a soiled carriage. You should place the carrier on your laps or places for bags. Transportation of 1 massive dog or 2 small pets is allowed in 1 compartment. 

In high-speed trains «Allegro», following in the direction of «St. Petersburg — Helsinki », in cars of the 2nd class, it is permissible to place no more than in certain places:

• 2 cages with small animals;
• 2 dogs, and each has its own separate leash;
• 1 dog with a short leash and small animals in 1 cage.

In cages of standard size (40x45x60 centimeters), transportation of several living creatures is allowed at once. 

In train No. 32/31 Moscow — Helsinki —Leo Tolstoy » is allowed to carry no more than 2 dogs in a compartment, and the owner is obliged to pay for the whole compartment. In trains traveling between Russia and Finland, the transportation of animals is carried out according to the "Agreement on the Procedure for Passenger Transportation in the Russian-Finnish Direct Railway Connection between JSC "Russian Railways", JSC "FPC" and "BP".

Transportation of animals unaccompanied by the owner

In the compositions of JSC "FPC", it is permissible to transport pets in baggage compartments without accompanying persons. 

The following tamed animals are allowed:

• rodents: squirrels, decorative rats, chinchillas, decorative rabbits, nutria, guinea pigs, house mice, gerbils, hamsters;
• non-venomous reptiles: red-eared turtles, iguanas, lizards, chameleons;
• non-venomous amphibians: newts, tree frogs, spur frogs, axolotls;
• cats, feneks (foxes), small dogs;
• predators: minks, ferrets, raccoons.
• insectivores: hedgehogs;
• birds.

Cages (containers) must be equipped with a pallet that slides out without opening the container, a feeder and a drinking bowl attached to the cage door. 

The owner can send along with the pet:

• accompanying documentation in an envelope (certificate certified by a veterinarian, pedigree, metric);
• 1 pet's favorite toy;
• filler;
• feed.

One person is allowed to occupy no more than 3 seats allocated for various representatives of the fauna. The parameters of the container fit into standards that do not exceed 180 centimeters when measured from 3 sides. It is allowed to place no more than 2 animals weighing up to 75 kilograms in one cage. Travel documents are purchased at baggage counters, the ticket price corresponds to the travel distance and starts from 730 rubles for 1 seat.
