History of Russian Railways

The construction of railways in Russia begins with antiquity. Already in the XVII century, the first roads connecting Moscow with St. Petersburg were built. At that time, these were simple roads passing through forests, fields, and rivers.

In the XIX century, the development of railways became one of the main directions of the development of the Russian economy. In 1837, the first broad-gauge railway connecting Moscow with St. Petersburg was opened. At that time, this section was considered the longest in the world.

In the XX century, the development of railways accelerated. Entire networks were built connecting various regions of the country. In the 1930s, the longest railway "Transsib" was created, connecting Europe with Asia.

Modern railways are convenient, fast, eco-friendly transport connecting various parts of the country. Modern technologies, such as electromagnetic rails, increase speed, convenience, safety, and economy.

Significant technologies for railway transport

Rail transport plays an important role in the world of transport. It has been used to transport people and goods for over a hundred years. During this time, the technologies and techniques of railway transport have changed a lot.

At the beginning of the XX century, steam engines were used, which made rail transport more efficient. This made it possible to increase the speed of trains, which made them more attractive to many countries.

At the same time, electric motors began to develop, which made rail transport more environmentally friendly and economically profitable. This made it more attractive for environmentally sensitive travelers, and also made it possible to significantly reduce the cost of cargo transportation by land.

With the development of electronics , we have reached a new level:

  • control systems
  • link
  • security
  • automation
  • travel comfort (Wi-Fi, GPS monitoring, comfortable seating, comfortable luggage compartments and more)

What is the future of railways and why should we wait for prices to increase?

In recent years, rail transport has gained new popularity. In this regard, the prices for travel have also changed. Starting from the early 2000s, prices for rail transport began to rise. At that time, train tickets were affordable, and many people were able to travel around the country with a strong blow to the wallet.

However, since the 2010s, prices have started to rise. During this period, ticket prices doubled, which made rail transport less affordable. At the same time, the number of services offered to passengers has increased.

Since the 2020s, prices have started to decrease slightly, against the background of falling demand due to Covid-19, as well as with a planned increase in the number of trains, staff optimization (reduction).

At the moment, it is difficult to predict the exact development of events, most likely, recent events in the foreign policy life of Russia will have a negative impact on the future of the industry and pricing.
