Krasnoyarsk Railway Station is an intermodal transport hub. Intercity rail transport and suburban traffic intersect here, as well as intercity road carriers and urban routes. More than two million passengers pass through the station during the year. The volume of passenger traffic per day is 2500 people.
Construction history
The first one-story, stone building of the Krasnoyarsk railway station was built in 1895. The project was created by architect Nikolai Solovyov. At that time, there was only one track at the station. In 1896, the number of tracks increased, a locomotive depot was built, accommodating 25 steam locomotives, as well as workshops for repairing trains. The appearance of the workshops has not changed to this day, although 120 years have passed.
Inside the building there were waiting rooms of the first and second class. Pediments and parapets decorated the facade. The Krasnoyarsk railway station belonged to the second class and was the only one of its kind on the entire Central Siberian Railway.
During these years, the station was a place where residents of the city spent their free time walking with their families, going to the buffet, watching the trains. The population of the city gradually grew and the old building began to be missed. In this regard, a new one was built in 1961. Although its size was also insufficient, so in 2000 the institute from Novosibirsk "Sibzheldorproekt" began to develop a new project. And in 2003, reconstruction began.
As a result of the work, a spire appeared on the dome of the middle part. The western and eastern extensions have grown by as many as three floors, elevators work inside them. Now the building could be called the "station-palace". The cladding is made of the most durable, as well as beautiful material for finishing granite, which was supplied to the construction site by domestic enterprises, and even brought from China and Spain. The interior is decorated in the style of the "Stalinist Empire", the walls and ceiling are covered with stucco, and large bronze chandeliers illuminate the halls.
Another interesting decoration of the facades are the four dials of Swiss watches. Two of them are turned onto the Forecourt, and the other two are turned onto the platform. There is a backlight inside the dials, so you can see from afar where the arrows point. The time on the clock is a reference, since it is constantly synchronized with the satellite.
The space occupied by the terminal has doubled and today is 12,300 square meters.
The forecourt was reconstructed together with the station. The project was developed by Andrey Kasatkin. Its main decoration is the heraldic symbol - a lion with a spade and a sickle, located on a stele 16 meters high. The same lion is depicted on the coat of arms of the city of Krasnoyarsk.
In addition, the square is decorated with three "singing fountains" with interesting lighting. Lighting effects and melodies vary.
A rare restored steam locomotive "Sergo Ordzhonikidze" was also installed on the platform.
